Written by Jean Freeman and illustrated by Val Lawton
Incase you don’t know, Jean Freeman was “Fitzy’s Grandmother” off of Corner Gas. I LOVED that show. GET THE F OFF MY LAWN!
And now you can have a book written by Jean Freeman – and an autographed book, at that. AWESOME! You don’t want to know what I had to do to get an autographed book from Jean Freeman. Let’s just say I’m not allowed to leave my house for six months.
This book is super cute with fun illustrations and a charming little story about a little boy who wonders where another little boy’s dog sleeps – which turns out to be anywhere he wants! I miss my dog. He liked to sleep on the floor beside our bed panting his gross hot breath into my face ever night.
This wonderful book won a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award and would make a perfect addition to any child’s story shelf. Lily enjoyed reading this book with me and turning the pages, and of course exclaiming “PUPPY! WOO WOO!” on every single page.
Enter to win! Leave a comment telling me your favourite Corner Gas episode. Or just tell me what your favourite book was as a child. My favourite? The Little Rabbit. I even had a few rabbits as pets when I got older. Then my grandpa made stew with them. Winner to be chosen by www.random.org on December 29 2010
I have some exciting news to share! Later. Also, scroll down to see who the winner is of the latest book giveaway!
I have been so busy editing and getting things back to clients in time for Christmas that I haven’t posted any of the hilarity that ensues everyday in my life in a few days. Like changing diapers and doing laundry and posting photos of my mediocre attempts at supper.
I’m so excited for Christmas. I’m going to take actual days OFF and not answer my emails or telephone. Or maybe I’ll do that in secret. But whatever.
I’m almost done my Christmas shopping. I have a few more things to buy for the nieces and I might tackle that tomorrow. After I do the laundry that is piling up in the bedrooms. The other day Lily was buried for twenty minutes when a landslide of miniature socks attacked her.
We bought Lillienne wooden musical instruments from Michael’s for Christmas. Two painted maracas, a tambourine, a stick with bells on it and I also found a little metal kazoo. REAL kids toys. Where you have to use that thing…that thing that’s called…..IMAGINATION! Remember using that?
I’m hoping to never ever introduce technological toys to her, but she already pretends to talk on my blackberry and is constantly demanding “Musigic!” on the computers and already owns a few dvd’s so I guess I’m not doing a very good job. Pretty soon she will just BBM me saying that she shit her pants, while she is simultaneously updating her Facebook status and playing Farmville, Farmtown, FarmCity, Farm-O-Rama, Farmz4Life ,Yo and various other farm games.
And the winner of the Barefoot Book’s Giveaway: commenter number 3, Tracie! I will be contacting you shortly so you can regift this awesome book! Haha. Kidding. But you totally could.
I will have a new book up for review and giveaway in a couple of days. Because it’s Christmas, and giving away free things makes my heart grow ten times, like that Grinch dude.
Mother Goose Remembers by Clare Beaton (With Sing-A-Long CD)
Published by Barefoot Books
I’m absolutely positive some little dude or gal out there is going to LOVE this book. Another book published by Barefoot Books, Mother Goose Remembers by Clare Beaton is absolutely gorgeous. It’s full of nursery rhymes (which are tons of fun!) but then the illustrations are pictures of felt shapes sewn together to create amazing scenes and images with thick, lovely stitches – I love this kind of art, there’s something very nostalgic and cozy about this book!
Lily of course will look at a manual for a blender for an hour, so she really liked this book. She loved pointing out the animals she recognized on the pages, and asked “WHAT DAT!” of the animals she didn’t. She listened politely while I belted out the nursery rhymes but I don’t think she can yet appreciate the notes I can hit.
WIN THIS BOOK. It’s free. It’s awesome. It’s Mother Goose Remembers by Clare Beaton. To enter, just leave a comment here and tell me what your favourite nursery rhyme was as a kid. Or, if you can’t remember, tell me how to potty train my child.
Winner to be chosen by Random.Org on December 8 2010. 1 Entry per day!
***We didn’t take the sing-a-long CD out of the wrapper, so that when the winner receives it there is no damage from shipping. Please note WE (I) DID SING ALONG, just very poorly and off key.
I wonder if this is my child?
And no, I wasn’t talking about the book by Bernhard Schlink – Good, by the way.Lillienne is obsessed with books. It doesn’t matter if we have read “Are You My Mother?” sixteen times already, we need to read it again, and we need to do it NOW. There were always books in every room in the house. The other day I went to get a feminine product out of the bathroom drawers and found 16 books next to the Tampax. But now? Now there are tiny children’s books everywhere, too. Cardboard books and pop up books and books with glitter. Books in the closet, bath time books and books that are lost under the couch for days at a time, and then found and celebrated by reading said book sixty-four times in an hour. And when I’m not reading books to Lily, she is sitting on the floor, attempting to read them herself, but she often sounds like she is giving a sermon in Thai. Or perhaps, Mandarin.
