Christmas Crafts – Winter Village

Years and years ago, my good friend Karen and I had a great idea after I showed her  my Martha Stewart Christmas magazine. We would craft and cut and glue and sparkle and make cute little Christmas towns. We did this for hours, both happily wrapped up in Christmas, and we probably had Bing Crosby’s White Christmas cranked (Or possibly Alvin & The Chipmunks) along with half a dozen rye and cokes steaming mugs of cocoa. And maybe some chips and dip.
Of the many things we had in common, our love for All Things Christmas was a biggie.
Many evenings later we finished them. We each had made a little town, complete with trees, “snowy” roofs and glittery walls.
I’m not sure where my village went. I might have tossed it out during the 4237 times I have moved in the past ten years.
I wonder if Karen’s village is still kicking around somewhere.
Anyhow, I shall resurrect Martha Stewart’s Winter Village this year. With the help of my fabulous daughter. And it will be awesome.
I sure miss my friend. XOX

Martha’s hand looks pretty darn shaky to me. I wouldn’t trust her.

Ten Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas

This year on my mother’s side of the family, we’re doing homemade gifts for Christmas. Since I’m not the most crafty person I did some brainstorming and came up with a few good ideas that anyone can do!

Salt dough ornaments. Make these, paint them and varnish them. VOILA! Cute and cheap ornaments.
Kaluha brownies. Everyone likes  baking, and most people enjoy booze.
Tin foil sculpture. Do it!
Paint a portrait of the recipient. Painting while on acid optional, but it always gives it that WOW factor.
Homemade wine, if you know what  you’re doing. Don’t blow anybody up.
Make your own version of the Snuggie….I just might follow-up this post with another post exclusively about Snuggie designs because they are ONE FUCKING HOT ITEM!!
Homemade slippers. One size should fit all but you can always double up.

OK, so that is only 7 ideas, but you get the idea. Use your imagination.

Le Petit Artiste

super amazing scribble

The photo with Just the marker, hands and feet? Her very first scribble ever. EVAAAAAA. That means this thing is getting mounted and framed and will probably be put on display in the New York Metropolitan Museum Of Art. LOOK AT THAT SCRIBBLE! Look at the lines and the depth and the EMOTION that radiates from that piece! It’s pretty fackin’ magical, if you ask me. See how she holds the marker and smashes in to the paper, adding texture and originality with every crude stroke. She may have prefered another medium but she never uttered a word,  she handled those magic markers like they were extensions of her fingers. A-MAY-ZING, I know. And I grew her!
